[ARCHIVED] Treasurer's Office Offers Life-Time Dog Tags - Pre-Orders Available

DOG Tags

Lifetime dog tags will be available for purchase this October and will be $15 per dog, with pre-orders being taken now.  Click HERE to fill out the life-time dog tag application.

The purchase process will remain the same as in past years. The only change you will see is that you will purchase one tag, valid for the life of your dog, eliminating the need for an annual tag. In the event that your dog’s tag is lost, stolen, or damaged, a replacement can be purchased for a $5 fee. Please note, lifetime tags are non-transferable, meaning that they cannot be transferred from one dog to the next. This includes, for example, the loss and/or sale of your dog.

According to Virginia State Code 3.2-65, all dogs* older than 4 months of age are required to have a current rabies vaccination, and purchase a dog license from the locality in which they live. The General Assembly of Virginia made this legislation to help prevent the spread of rabies in the Commonwealth. Whenever a vaccination occurs, the veterinarian is required to submit that report to your local Treasurer’s office. Furthermore, in 2017, Virginia Code § 3.2-6528 was amended to permit localities to enact, by ordinance, a lifetime license tax on dog ownership. Failure to purchase a dog tag for each of your dogs can result in a fine upwards of $250, enforceable by the Campbell County Animal Control office.

When applying for a lifetime dog tag, all residents must submit a copy of the rabies vaccination certificate provided by your veterinarian. This must accompany the application for each dog in your household. Please note, this will not change the kennel license process, kennel licenses will remain an annual purchase. They are available at $20 for a 20 Dog Kennel, $30 for a 50 Dog Kennel and the same rules apply, in that a rabies certificate must be provided for each dog listed under your kennel tag.
