Statewide Tornado Drill -Tuesday, March 10: CodeRed Alerts Registration Now Available on Web and App

Campbell News Posted on March 05, 2026

On Tuesday, March 10, Virginia residents, businesses, agencies and visitors are encouraged to participate in the annual Statewide Tornado Drill at 9:45 AM. This is a great opportunity to practice tornado safety plans and review emergency procedures.  Click HERE for information on what to do should a tornado or severe storm affect your area.

Campbell County Department of Public Safety also reminds residents to sign up for CodeRED alerts. This free service allows you to receive critical weather messages from the National Weather Service and other local emergency notifications from trusted officials via phone, email or text.  You select the types of notifications you wish to receive and how you prefer to receive them. Alerts are location-based and you’ll only get alerts if you’re in the affected area - no spam, just relevant information.

The mobile app is free. Download the CodeRED app from the App Store or Google Play. Turn on GPS for real-time alerts. The app can send alerts based on your exact location- wherever you go.

If you've already registered for CodeRed, prior to March 1, 2025, you do not need to re-register. However, if you signed up after that date, it is recommended that you re-register as CodeRED has recently updated its platforms and databases to improve services.
