The Rustburg Christmas Parade is set for Sunday, Dec. 11, 3
to 5 p.m., with an inclement weather date of Dec. 18. The Virginia Department
of Transportation (VDOT) is advising motorists about changes in traffic
patterns in the area because of the parade.
The parade, which is presented by the Rustburg Christmas
Parade Committee, will involve temporary road closures at the southern and
northern intersections of U.S. 501S (Village Highway and Campbell Highway) and S.R.
24 (Colonial Highway), S.C. 622 (Depot Road) and U.S. 501, S.C. 655 (Rocky
Road) and U.S. 501 in the village of Rustburg.
The parade route will start at Rustburg Elementary School at
Webbs Way, turn right onto 501 (Village Highway), and continue along Route 501,
ending at the Social Services Building parking lot on Route 838 (Kabler Lane).
VDOT will place message boards one week in advance to notify
the traveling public of the road closure through Rustburg.
On Dec. 11, additional message boards and detour signs will
be set to detour Route 501 northbound traffic and Route 24 eastbound traffic
toward Route 29 near Foster Fuels.
Message boards and detour signs will also be placed to
direct Route 501 southbound traffic and Route 24 westbound traffic to Route 680
(Suburban Road).
Directional signage will likewise be positioned along the
detour route at Route 738 (English Tavern Road), Route 29, and Route 685 (Calohan
Road) and other turning decision locations.
Motorists should look for message boards and detour signs,
as well as allow extra travel time during this temporary road closure.
Those attending the parade are reminded of the following:
*Properly park in public parking areas.
*Please do not park along roadsides, in private driveways
(unless permission is granted by property owner), in fire lanes, or in areas
reserved for parade staging.
*Practice safety by ensuring that children are well
monitored, especially in high traffic areas and along the parade route.
*Be aware that some traffic congestion may occur in the time
leading up to and following the parade. Citizens are asked to remain respectful
and practice patience as traffic clears from the area.
