Senior Awareness Day, an annual event for seniors living in the region, will be on Tuesday, April 25, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Timberlake United Methodist Church, located at 21649 Timberlake Road, Lynchburg.
The event is sponsored by the Department of Social Services in the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, and Campbell and in Lynchburg and by the Campbell County Parks and Recreation Department. It is free and open to the public.
The theme for this year’s event is “Home, Health, and Happiness.” There will be workshops, morning exercise, information about community resources, a Pop-Up Library, food, vendors, and a sing-along.
Speakers will include the following: motivational speaker Sadie Hawthorne, Campbell County Fire Marshal Randall Johnson on fire safety, Blue Ridge Therapy Associates on maintaining strength and health, Generation Solutions on technology for seniors, and David Shreve on legal issues.
The informational event is designed to support adults in making decisions that will ensure the best possible outcomes for them as well as their families, and to provide a time for enrichment, shared learning, fellowship, and fun. Senior Awareness Day is a special day to encourage the well-being and independence of our seniors and especially to promote the prevention of adult abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
