Captain Stuart Herndon
Stuart Herndon began his law enforcement career as a patrolman for the Town of Altavista in 2003, where he focused on developing relationships within the community, and creating a 'community first' philosophy of policing.
In 2006, he brought his philosophy which centers around the belief that law enforcement take part in active listening and transparent communication to Campbell County, where he served as a field deputy for several years until being promoted to the rank of Sergeant in the division.
In December of 2012, Stuart was recognized for his dedication, and promoted to the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) as a general investigator. During this time, he collaborated with other law enforcement agencies, as well as prosecutors and other members of the criminal justice system, to ensure that cases are thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.
Throughout his career in law enforcement, Stuart has been committed to serving and protecting the community with integrity and dedication. I have worked on a variety of cases, from minor thefts to major crimes, and have always strived to bring justice to those affected by crime.
Stuart continued specialized training in areas such as surveillance techniques, criminal response tactics, and interview and interrogation methods, which ultimately led to his increase in rank to Lieutenant, and ultimately, his promotion to Captain of the CID.
As a Captain in CID, he is responsible for overseeing a team of investigators and ensuring that the division is operating efficiently and effectively. He is also responsible for developing and implementing strategies to combat crime and keep our community safe.
Outside of his career in law enforcement, Stuart enjoys spending quality time with his family and engaging in outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing.
