Support Services
The mission of the Support Services division is to ensure that all personnel meet state requirements for training and development, including initial and ongoing training. Likewise, the unit oversees four functional areas: Civil Processes, Court Security, County Code Enforcement, and the School Resource Officer Program.
The division is responsible for serving legal documents, conducting background investigations for job applicants, responding to code violations, providing security in courts, investigating concealed weapon permit applications, and coordinating training and maintaining records for accreditation.
Captain Mike Bryant
Captain Mike Bryant graduated from Liberty University in the spring of 2012 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. As a resident of Campbell County for most of his life, Mike wanted to pursue a career in law enforcement in Campbell County to serve in his community. Mike was hired by Sheriff Steve Hutcherson as a Field Deputy in December, 2012. Mike then attended the Central Virginia Criminal Justice Academy (Class of 81) where he was the recipient of the Jay Parker Award which is awarded to the student with the highest overall scores in firearms and defensive tactics.
In 2016, Mike joined the Special Response Team (SRT). Mike continues to serve on the Special Response Team as the Team Leader. Mike served as a Field Deputy from 2013-2016. He was promoted to Investigator in 2016 where he worked several homicide investigations as the lead investigator and handled other major cases. In 2020, Mike was promoted to the Lieutenant of the Criminal Investigations Division (CID). In addition to supervising the operations of CID, he served on the Board for Crime Stoppers, handled Internal Affairs investigations and other major crimes. Mike transferred to the Field Division in 2022 where he supervised a Patrol shift. In 2024, he was appointed to Captain over the Support Services Division which includes the School Resource Officers, Court Security, Civil Process Personnel, and Project Lifesaver.
During the course of Captain Bryant’s career, he has received numerous awards and commendations to include Distinguished Service, Meritorious Service and letters of commendation from citizens and Command Staff. Captain Bryant is an Instructor in Firearms and other Law Enforcement specialties. In addition to teaching and instructing basic students and Sheriff’s Office department training, Captain Bryant and the CCSO Special Response Team teach the Basic SWAT School annually to members of regional Police Departments and Sheriff’s Offices.
Captain Bryant is looking forward to continuing to serve the citizens of Campbell County in a leadership role. Captain Bryant places an emphasis on school safety and maintaining the partnership with the Campbell County Schools through the School Resource Officer program.
