Environmental Management

Facilitating Erosion/Sediment Control and Stormwater Management

Campbell County’s Environmental Management Program has combined Virginia’s Erosion and Sediment Controls laws, and Stormwater Management laws to provide a comprehensive approach to preserve, and protect the quality of water in our streams, rivers, and lakes countywide.

In addition to resource protection, we ensure properties adjacent to land development projects are being protected as well.

Our program was developed with The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality to ensure regulated land disturbing activities are being effectively controlled to reduce pollution and degradation of our natural resources.

Environmental Management is tasked with the oversight of compliance for regulated land disturbing activities. This process begins at application submittal all the way thru to project completion.

  • Issue land disturbance permits for residential and commercial construction and for general land clearing projects.
  • Conduct routine site inspections to ensure ESC/SWM measures are being properly installed and maintained and are functioning.

  • Conduct annual stormwater management facilities and Best Management Practices (BMP’s) inspections.
  • Assist landowners, contractors, engineers and developers with erosion and sediment control and stormwater management regulations and polices.

Virginia Stormwater Management (VSMP) Authority

To provide a greater level of customer service, Campbell County is authorized to operate the Virginia Stormwater Management Program (VSMP) on behalf of The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. Therefore, projects requiring state stormwater permit coverage can submit plans, registration statement, and all other required documents directly to us, including permit fees, eliminating the need to submit to the DEQ.
