CCSO CARE Alert: Citizens Report Fraudulent Text Posing as VA DMV Threatening Fines; Don't Click
RUSTBURG, VA - The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office has been alerted that numerous residents have received a fraudulent text message claiming to be from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
This message falsely states that there is an outstanding traffic ticket and threatens penalties beginning June 25. It includes a suspicious link and demands immediate payment.
THIS IS A SCAM. DO NOT CLICK THE LINK. DO NOT RESPOND.
The DMV does not send texts requesting payment or threatening legal action in this manner.
What You Should Do:
Delete the message immediately.
Do not reply or click any links.
Report the scam to the Federal Trade Commission at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
