Community Advised of Recent Phone Scams; Callers Impersonating CCSO Detectives
RUSTBURG, VA - On Friday, April 18, 2025, two (2) citizens reported being contacted by a scammer posing as a Campbell County Sheriff’s Office detective. The caller falsely claimed that the Sheriff’s Office was holding paperwork for them.
This is a common scam. The scammer’s next step is typically to demand payment for “fees” or a “bond” before asking the person to “turn themselves in.”
Please do not fall for this scam.
The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office will never ask you to send money or purchase gift cards to resolve legal matters.
If you are ever contacted by someone claiming to be with law enforcement, do not share personal information or send money. Instead, hang up and call our non-emergency line at (434) 592-9574, and a CCSO deputy will verify the situation.
