Campbell County Social Services is offering a series of free Parenting Education classes during the month of February.

Crisis Assistance begins November 1, 2011 and runs through March 15, 2012. This program helps repair or purchase heating equipment for the home or pay the security deposit for the primary source of heat if there are no other means of heat in the home. Eligibility is based on total household income. Please contact your local Social Services office with any questions.
Hours of operations for the Department of Social Services in Campbell County are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Programs and Services

  Appointments are not required; simply ask for the type of assistance needed.

  • Adoption: Adoptive placements are made on behalf of foster children eligible for adoption. Reports concerning independent adoption placement are provided upon order from the Courts.
  • Adult Protective Services: Adults, 60 years of age and older, or at least 18 years of age and older and incapacitated, who are abused, neglected, or exploited are eligible for this service regardless of income.
  • Adult Services: Services to adults are provided to anyone 60 years old and over, or at least 18 years old and impaired, and are designed to maximize self-sufficiency, prevent abuse or inappropriate institutionalization, and to assist with screening for community based care and appropriate placement, such as in Assisted Living Facilities and Nursing Homes.
  • Auxiliary Grant Program (AGP): AGP provides assistance to eligible individuals living in Adult Living Facilities whose income is insufficient to cover the total cost of care.
  • Child Care Services: Low Income families, who meet eligibility requirements, may be eligible to receive a subsidy with childcare costs.
  • Child Protective Services: Children under 18 who may be abused or neglected by a caretaker are entitled to this service regardless of income. Services include investigation and provision of ongoing social work and case management for families and children at risk.
  • Emergency Assistance (TANF-EA): TANF-EA provides a one-time money payment to eligible households with minor children who have experienced an emergency such as fire, flood, or natural disaster.
  • Energy Assistance: Low income households may receive assistance with their heating or cooling needs through Fuel Assistance and Crisis Assistance Programs.
  • Family Access to Medical Insurance Security (FAMIS): FAMIS is medical insurance for children who are uninsured and meet financial eligibility requirements.
  • Foster Care:  Temporary shelter and care are provided for children who are unable to remain in their own homes as determined by the courts and/or Child Protective Services.
  • General Relief / Unattached Child Program (GR): General Relief is a limited financial program that assists non-relatives responsible for a minor child.
  • Home Based Care (Companion Services): Companion Services may be purchased based on available funding to assist eligible clients 60 years old and over, or at least 18 years old and impaired, to supplement their capacity to remain in their own homes.
  • Housing Choice Voucher Program: Offers rental subsidies to income eligible recipients.
  • Intake Services: Customers receive information/referral and assessment, as well as assistance in emergency situations such as lack of food, shelter, fuel or clothing.
  • Medicaid: Costs of certain medical care for qualified low income persons, such as the elderly, disabled, blind, expectant mothers and children, and other populations meeting particular eligibility requirements are provided under the medical assistance program.  
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP): Low-income households may be eligible for a supplement to assist with food.
  • Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF): TANF is a financial assistance program provided to eligible parents and relatives who are responsible for a minor child.  
  • Virginia Initiative for Employment not Welfare (VIEW): Recipients of TANF participate in individual activities, education and training to obtain employment and financial independence.
  • Volunteer Services: Community resource development, transportation services, back to school and holiday sponsorship are provided by volunteers under the supervision of the Program Coordinator.
