The Campbell County Recreation Department will hold an Elementary School Age Track Camp over Spring Break. Participants must wear running shorts, t-shirts and running shoes- no open toe shoes or bare feet.  Participants will learn proper running form, basic techniques of the different track events (long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot put, discus, hurdles, 50 and 200 meters and relays).  Participants must register at the Recreation Office.

 Challenger Softball League

Fee: $25.00
Spring schedule begins April 14.
Registrations must be received by April 3.  
 

 Campbell County Recreation Department is pleased to sponsor the Yellow Branch Challenger League. The team plays each Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Yellow Branch Elementary School. This program inspires individual athletic strength encouraging players to develop friendships in a family oriented setting.

This league is a volunteer program specifically for individuals ages 6 and up, who are intellectually and/or physically challenged.  For more details, including schedules, please contact Bettie Jo Shrum,  Manager, at (434) 821-2187 or Jeff Reynolds at (434)-942-5649. Volunteers are vital to our program. Please consider offering your time. Join us and you’ll have a ball!

Youth Tennis Classes

The Campbell County Recreation Department has teamed up with Brookville High School Women’s Tennis Coach Kendra Turner to offer youth tennis classes for Beginners and Intermediate players.  Mrs. Turner is a 4.0 ranked player her experience includes playing 4 years on the Brookville High School team, 4 years for Lynchburg College, and coaching 12 years at William Campbell High School.  She currently has coached the last 2 years for Brookville High School.  For more information concerning questions about the class contact Kendra at 434-907-0409.  

Description: The Beginner Class is for those who have never played tennis or have limited knowledge of the game.  The skills taught will be the grip, body position, addressing the ball, scoring the game and basic serve.  The Intermediate Class is for those players who have had previous lessons or played organized tennis.  Participants must be able to hit the ball over the net consistently and many of the skills taught are the same as the beginner class but in more detail. 

Equipment needed by all participants:  tennis racket, hat or sun visor, sunglasses and tennis shoes (no open toed shoes). Contact the Campbell County Recreation Department at 434-332-9570 for more information.

Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. Fee includes balls provided by CCRD. To qualify in this league, at least one half of the team members must live or work in Campbell County. League rosters must accompany league fees.

NAYS Soccer Coaches Training (Initial Level)

This training is for all Campbell County Recreation Department Youth Soccer Coaches.  It is provided by the National Alliance for Youth Sports.  Coaches who successfully complete the Initial Level Membership training will automatically receive:  a youth sports journal, a certificate of completion, $1,000,000 excess liability insurance, membership card, exclusive online member area, annual subscription to Sporting Kid magazine, a monthly newsletter and exclusive corporate discount/programs.

 Description:  Part 1 includes coaches learning preventing youth sports violence, teaching good sportsmanship, keeping players active at practice, building confidence, and the role of winning in youth sports, working with parents, nutrition and hydration, injury prevention/conditioning and stretching.
