On Thursday, February 11 a fire engulfed the former Dan River facility in Brookneal. The cause of the blaze, which was reported at approximately 3:30 p.m., is still under investigation by the Campbell County Fire Marshal, Randall Johnson. No injuries were reported. The building was currently under demolition when the fire occurred. At this point the fire is considered contained, but as a precaution local fire crews continue to monitor the site.

The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office issued the following statement about a shooting death that occurred in Campbell County on Sunday, Jan. 24: On Jan. 24, 2016, at 10:15 p.m., Campbell County deputies responded to 6559 Richmond Highway, Lynchburg, Va., regarding a subject having a gunshot wound.

Michael F. Daly, Campbell County’s director of Youth, Adult and Community Services, is retiring Jan. 31 after 12 years of service. Daly, whose office is responsible for overseeing Children’s Services Act (CSA) cases, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), and Virginia Juvenile Community Crime Control Act (VJCCCA) cases, was instrumental in establishing the Youth, Adult and Community Service Department in 2003 and effectively developing its mandated programs.

Health Services

The Campbell County Health Department is part of the Central Virginia Health District and the Virginia Department of Health. The Health Department has both clinical functions and community health functions. The department's programs include Environmental Health, Nursing Services, Child Development Clinic. 

The Campbell County Health Department is located at 116 Kabler Lane in Rustburg.  Office hours are 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday.  To schedule an appointment, or for more information, please contact the office during business hours at (434) 332-9550, 283-9550, or 592-9550.
