| Campbell County Rabies Vaccination Clinic Scheduled for Saturday, February 4 | | 01/25/2012 - 3:00 PM | | RUSTBURG, VA – Campbell County is offering a rabies vaccination clinic on Saturday, February 4, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Campbell County Animal Care and Control Facility, located at 322 Dennis Riddle Dr. in Rustburg, (between the Campbell County Technical Center and the Yellow Branch Elementary School). Staff will strive to accommodate citizens as quickly as possible, however, only those in line prior to 12:00 p.m. will be served.
Rabies vaccines will be administered at a cost of $5.00 each. The first rabies shot is effective for one (1) year; subsequent rabies vaccinations (given close to the expiration date) are effective for three (3) years. If an animal has had a previous rabies vaccination, please bring the former certificate for proof; this will expedite completion of the new certificate.
Citizens are required to present a current rabies certificate to the Treasurer of Campbell County to purchase a dog license. Animal licenses are issued by the Campbell County Treasurer’s Office for a fee of $5.00, if the animal is spayed or neutered; the fee is $10.00 for unaltered animals. For citizens’ convenience, envelopes will be provided at the rabies clinic in which to place payment and a copy of rabies certification for an animal license. These envelopes will be delivered by staff to the Treasurer’s Office on Monday, February 6 for processing; animal licenses and rabies certificates will then be returned to citizens by mail.
The Humane Society for Campbell County will also conduct a micro-chipping clinic during the rabies clinic. The cost of micro-chipping and registration is $15.00 per animal. In this process, a small chip (approximately the size of a grain of rice) is inserted under the animal’s skin through which owner information is recorded on a national registry. Should the animal become lost or stolen, the proper owner can be identified and located through a scan of the chip.
Routine animal control services are available on weekdays, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Please note that extended operating hours for the animal shelter are no longer in effect. The facility is now open to the public from 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, and from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays. In the future, extended public hours may be temporarily reinstated on a seasonal basis.
Citizens are reminded to call the non-emergency, Public Safety dispatch number at (434) 332-9574, (434) 283-9574, or (434) 592-9574 with non-emergency animal control requests. For animal control emergencies, citizens may call 9-1-1 for assistance. An animal control officer is on-call during evening hours, on week-ends and on holidays to respond to citizens’ emergency animal control needs.

| Campbell County Animal Shelter Returns to Regular Public Operating Hours, Effective January 23 | | 01/19/2012 - 12:45 PM | | The Campbell County Animal Care and Control Facility, located at 322 Dennis Riddle Dr. in Rustburg, will return to regular public operating hours, effective January 23, 2012. The agency will be open for pet adoptions and other public services from 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, and from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
In 2011, Animal Care and Control staff implemented extended operating hours by one hour on week nights to coincide with a new policy allowing citizens to adopt animals at no cost. Although facility schedules are reverting to standard time frames, extended public hours may be occasionally reinstated on a seasonal basis or with other pet adoption campaigns.
Citizens are reminded that pets may now be selected and adopted with only the completion of a standard contract, indicating that the animal will be: • spayed/neutered • given a vaccination by a licensed veterinarian • and licensed in accordance with local laws/codes.
Residents should note that the adoption process is free, however, veterinary or licensing expenses remain the responsibility of the adopting party. A required waiting period may apply before a pet can be taken home (five days for a stray animal or ten days for a collared animal).
