September is National Literacy Month, and the Campbell County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution recognizing the observance during its Aug. 4 meeting. Nan Carmack, director of the Campbell County Public Library System, requested the approval of the resolution and noted the literacy volunteers’ steadfast devotion to their work as the need for local literacy services rises.

This year the Virginia Executive Mansion, through the Virginia Association of Counties (VACo), has selected the theme of “Celebrating Virginia’s Localities” toward decorating the annual holiday tree in Richmond. Each locality has been requested to submit one handmade ornament to present for viewing by visitors.

Two Campbell County Department of Public Safety staff members and a Campbell County Rescue Squad member were recipients of the 2015 Blue Ridge Emergency Medical Services’ (BREMS) Council Awards, which were presented on June 18, 2015, at the BREMS annual awards banquet. Training Capt. L. Frank Smith was presented with the Outstanding Pre-Hospital Educator Award, and Capt. Justin Kidd was recognized with the Outstanding Pre-Hospital Provider Award. Nathaniel Paxton, a Campbell County Rescue Squad volunteer, was the recipient of the 2015 Linda Boon Educational Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to EMS by a high school senior. This is the first BREMS award for each.

The Campbell County Community Development Department is slated to install the initial phase of a new electronic permitting system, ViewPermit, beginning next week. Citizens are advised that due to these upgrades, no building permits will be issued from noon on Tuesday, June 30 to 8:30 a.m. on Monday, July 6. The office will be closed on Friday, July 3 in observance of Independence Day.

2014 Board of Supervisors

Campbell County is governed by a seven-member Board of Supervisors serving four-year staggered terms. 

Regularly scheduled meetings of the Board of Supervisors are  held on the first Tuesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. with the Board addressing administrative items, as needed, until 6:00 p.m. The Board will recess from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., reconvening at 7:00 p.m. to address any unfinished matters and/or conduct any scheduled public hearings. Board of Supervisors meetings are held on the basement level of the Haberer Building, 47 Courthouse Lane, Rustburg, VA 24588.
