A Virginia Cooperative Extension Program, the Virginia Household Water Quality Program, is providing water testing in October for your water if it comes from a well, spring, or cistern. Anyone in the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, and Campbell, and the city of Lynchburg, can participate.

The testing includes a kickoff meeting, where you will receive information about how to collect water samples and a sampling kit. You will collect water on a designated day and time and drop the sample at a collection point. Your water will be analyzed at Virginia Tech. You will receive the results and an explanation of the results at a final meeting or, if you cannot attend the final meeting, through the mail.

The cost is $52 per sample kit. Checks and cash are accepted. To register for Campbell County, you must complete the registration and pay by 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30.

A link to a Registration Form is below. You may also register by contacting the Campbell Extension Office at 434-332-9538.

The water testing will analyze iron, sodium, fluoride, coliform bacteria, manganese, copper, pH, E. coli bacteria, sulfate, nitrate, total dissolved solids, lead, hardness, and arsenic.

In Campbell County, the kickoff meeting will be Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 9 a.m. at the Campbell Extension Office, located at 163 Kabler Lane, Rustburg.

Samples will need to be dropped off on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 7:30 – 9 a.m.

The final meeting will be held at Central Virginia Community College, 3506 Wards Road, Lynchburg, on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. and at 6 p.m.

For more information about the program, go to or call the Campbell Extension Office at 434-332-9538.
