[ARCHIVED] Campbell County Public Safety Reminds Citizens to Monitor Weather Conditions Before Burning

CCPS - Fire Safety Reminder

RUSTBURG, VA - Campbell County Public Safety would like to remind citizens that current weather conditions mean a higher risk of wild fires in our area.

As the 4 PM Burning Law is in effect February 15 to April 30, restricting open air burning until after 4:00 p.m. daily, we ask that you please refrain from burning in high wind situations; however, if you absolutely have to, it must be done after 4 p.m., and it is preferable if not done in high wind situations.

Burning yard trimmings or leaves is a common practice, but a dangerous one. Winds can blow burning yard waste and embers far off site and ignite combustible vegetation. However, you can burn safely and legally, if you follow safe burning practices, and employ a little practical sense.

For more information on preventing wildfires, please visit the Virginia Department of Forestry website on Wildfire Prevention.
