RUSTBURG, VA - Are you ready to get outdoors? If so, the Campbell County Recreation Department has a family-friendly activity that is perfect for you!
Every year, the nation celebrates National Hop-a-Park Day™ – a day dedicated to exploring the parks and natural spaces in your community. Celebrated annually, this activity is held on the first Saturday in July and provides a perfect excuse to get outdoors, and learn more about your environment. You can enjoy the outdoors, green spaces, and public parks as much as possible by visiting the variety of naturally beautiful parks right in your own backyard!
Campbell County offers five parks in our locality, with the towns of Altavista and Brookneal maintaining their own sites independently. These unique spaces are centerpieces for the individual communities they serve, and each provide amenities for experienced or novice nature-lovers.
As you can imagine, due to COVID-19/Coronavirus concerns, things will look slightly different. We won’t have hands-on activities, or an opening/closing celebration, but we are park-hopping! At each park location, you’ll find activity signs encouraging you to stretch your legs, and perform some physical activity before embarking on our rustic trails, or enjoying the park’s green spaces.
Not only does Hop-A-Park Day give you the opportunity to learn about your local area and embrace the green areas around you, but it also provides you with the perfect opportunity to get away from the phone, internet, or tv.
Read a book, enjoy a family picnic, birdwatch, or simply take some time for yourself. The choice is yours! The Park Hop is FREE, you can enjoy the event on your own schedule. Plus, your family can earn prizes by sharing their photos to our Facebook page (@CCRDOnline), and you participate by exploring our Campbell County parks and beautiful spaces.
Don’t miss out on our Park Hop Guide, available on our website, which lists our green spaces and neat features. Start hopping – there’s lots to explore!
