[ARCHIVED] Campbell County Halloween Events, Activities, and Information

Halloween 2018

Rustburg, VA-One night each year children across the United States don flashy costumes, slather on extra makeup and dash through the darkness in search of candy treats. And that night is once again approaching!

Campbell County does not designate a set time or date for neighborhood Halloween events, or Trick-or-Treat activities; however, individual communities schedule and plan their own.

There are a few, free local events occurring, which are sponsored by some of our departments, and partner agencies. Please see these listed here:

  • Spooky Tales in the Courthouse Square – Saturday, October 27, 2018 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m..  Offered by Campbell County Historical Society and Campbell County Recreation Department.  For details, please call (434) 332-9570.
  • Halloween Party at Patrick Henry Library – Tuesday, October 30, 2018 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m..  Offered by the Campbell County Public Library System, Brookneal branch.  For more information, please call (434) 376-3363.

For those neighborhoods and families who turn this night into a full-fledged event, staff would like to gently remind citizens about the importance of keeping children safe during this holiday.

Here are some important safety tips to consider, which will keep those little ghosts and goblins safe:

  • Choose bright, reflective costumes so children are visible. Select costumes that are flame retardant.
  • Be sure costumes don't cause tripping hazards.
  • Choose face paint over masks, which can cause vision issues.
  • Be cautious of drivers in the neighborhood.
  • Bring pets inside to keep them safe and from following trick-or-treaters in your neighborhood.
  • Adults should always accompany children if trick-or-treating.
  • Only trick-or-treat to areas and homes that you are familiar with.
  • Keep children on sidewalks; do not walk in the street.
  • Be sure to check all candy prior to eating; for safety, only consume candy or treats that are factory wrapped.
