Campbell County Names Jordan Welborn New Library Director

Jordan Welborn

(RUSTBURG, VA) Jordan Welborn has been named director of the Campbell County Public Library System, effective May 1, 2018. Welborn formerly served as a Public Services Librarian for the locality since 2010, and succeeds Nan Carmack, who retired in October of 2017.

“Jordan has been outstanding in serving the library in numerous ways,” said Sandra Lichtenberger, Chair, Library Board of Trustees. “With her broad range of experience and passion for blending technology with public library service, we look forward to having her lead our library system to the next level.”

Before she began at the Campbell County Public Library, Welborn served as an Adult Services Librarian in the Appalachian Regional Library System of the Wilkes County, North Carolina public library.

During her time as interim public library director, Welborn has been instrumental in the growth of adult education services and continuing literacy programs to support economic development within the Campbell County area. She will continue to oversee the library system, which includes four facilities, and a variety of employees and youth and adult volunteers.

Active in various community organizations, Welborn serves on the Natural Bridge Appalachian Trail Club as a hike leader, and serves as chair of the Public Relations Committee. She is a member of the Hill City Master Gardeners Club, the James River Council for the Arts and Humanities, and volunteers with Opera on the James. She previously graduated from the Leadership Lynchburg cohort and established “Art on Main,” which improved the look and feel of vacant downtown Lynchburg storefronts. In 2014, she was recognized with the Campbell County Employee Excellence Award, and in 2016, was recognized as one of the prestigious “Top 20 under 40 Millenials on the Move” by Lynchburg Business Magazine.

Welborn earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Science in Library Science degree from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, and is currently working towards a Master of Science in Information Systems degree from University or Tennessee.

Welborn states, “It is my belief that each day is an opportunity to positively influence the lives of others. Sometimes, it’s possible to pull off grand gestures. More often, it’s the little things we are able to control. I take my position of service seriously, and strive each day to send a bit more light into the world.”

Please join our locality in congratulating, and welcoming Jordan Welborn to the role of Director of the Campbell County Public Library System.
