The Campbell County Cooperative Extension Office will offer testing of water from a private source, such as a well, spring, and cistern, through the Virginia Household Water Quality Program.

The cost is $52 per sample kit. If you choose to participate, you must attend one information session to pick up a sample kit and receive directions on how to collect samples.

The information sessions will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 7 – 8 p.m. and on Wednesday, April 20, 9 – 10 a.m. at the Campbell County Extension Office, located in the Agriculture Building at 163 Kabler Lane, Rustburg.

You will collect samples on a designated date and drop off the samples on Wednesday, April 27, 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. at the Campbell County Extension Office. The samples will be analyzed at Virginia Tech. At a local meeting, you will receive confidential results, an explanation of what they mean, and information about addressing any problems or concerns. The date, time, and location of that meeting have not yet been determined.

The goal of the Virginia Household Water Quality Program is to improve the water quality and health of Virginians with private water supplies, including wells, springs, and cisterns.

The water test will include testing for iron, sodium, fluoride, coliform bacteria, manganese, copper, pH, E. coli bacteria, sulfate, nitrate, Total Dissolved Solids, lead, hardness, and arsenic.

Registration is not required, but you are encouraged to preregister because space is limited.
