[ARCHIVED] Senior Awareness Day Set for April 24

Senior Awareness Day, an annual event for seniors living in the region, will be on Tuesday, April 24, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Timberlake United Methodist Church, located at 21649 Timberlake Road, Lynchburg.

The event is sponsored by the Department of Social Services in the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, and Campbell and in Lynchburg and by the Campbell County Parks and Recreation Department. It is free and open to the public.

The theme for this year’s event is “Safe, Savvy, and Secure.” There will be workshops, information about community resources, a vendor fair, food, and live music.

This year’s focus is on avoiding scams, identity theft and exploitation. Tulane Patterson, with Generation Solutions will be presenting “Technology to Promote Independence”, and there will be special music provided by local musicians, the Bo-Zac Band.

The informational event is designed to support adults in making decisions that will ensure the best possible outcomes for them as well as their families, and to provide a time for enrichment, shared learning, fellowship, and fun. Senior Awareness Day is a special day to encourage the well-being and independence of our seniors and especially to promote the prevention of adult abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
